Let's Do the Timewarp Again!!

As my span of years becomes longer, why is it the days seem shorter? Try as I might to rise at 5:30am..ok sometimes 7am on the weekends, it never seems like there is enough time to do everything needed in a day. In the office four days a week sounds like bliss for most, but those who take their work home with them can relate that there is never really an 'off' day. As a small business owner this is certainly the case. When clients say to me, "Wow you have 3 days off? That must be so nice!" It is..and unless I'm on vacation, I'm never really taking a day off. There is business development, writing, creating workshops, collaborating with other practitioners. Then there is the domestic 'stuff' groceries, errands, cleaning, laundry, cooking for our family of three. Finally, because my work is in holistic health, I've got to practice what I preach, so there's the yoga, meditation, Reiki, bodywork, acupuncture, walking, reading, eating well....AAARRRRGGGHHH!! There's no time for it allllllll!!!! I'm diagonally parked in a parallel soccermom universe!

whew, ok. There was a time when my life was not parallel with a soccermom. A time when I would wake early, workout, yoga, hike 5miles, meet friends for lunch. I was in great shape, yet oddly I wasn't as fulfilled. Do not mistake..I don't find it necessary to fill my time in order to be fulfilled. However when you are doing what fulfills you, it does not come without commitment.

The premise of my work in this world is to facilitate healing in people, not necessarily fixing them. Therefore, much of what I do is guide and counsel on ways to incorporate healthy options into existing lifestyles. When I ask people, do you have a yoga or meditation practice, they look at me sheepishly as if the dog ate their homework. I'm just trying to find out what works for them and how we can bring in a bit more balance.

When clients tell me they just don't have time, I counter with modifying the TO-DO list. I'm incredibly guilty of having an overwhelming list of things to complete in a day. It used to be one long legal sheet of paper crammed with phone calls, emails, errands..oh and gotta get that powerwalk or yoga class in. I'm guilty of going without yoga for weeks on end then wondering why my body feels so stuck. It's the low back pain which reminds me to return to what unwinds me.

I've learned to modify my To-Do list by categorizing..Professional:  Home:  Personal:  and giving equal time to each. When realizing that the Personal time is just as important in your schedule it becomes more of a necessity and less of a frivolity.

So when I take my scheduled powerwalk through the beautiful hills of my neighborhood and drop in to my 90min yoga class, time suddenly slows. The 'not-enough-time' mantra fades to silent. The sun warms my body, the jasmine graces the air I breathe and life is just good.

The more we learn about wellness, the less we accept the old paradigm of medicating our ailments. When we actively become a participant in our body's wellbeing, the payoffs are huge. So scheduling that bodywork session, yoga, workout, or even 20min if stillness will allow you to drop into a timewarp of the best kind, where everything slows its pace just a bit than before.
