The number 108 is known in mathematics as an Abundant Number. In Eastern religions it is known as a sacred number. It is the number of beads on a mala. Many temples have 108 steps. Personally I use the 108 beads on my mala to recite the Om Mani Padme Hum to invoke compassion or Aham Prema for Divine Love.
Every November I create a morning around the Thanksgiving holiday to be in nature, plant my feet on the earth and remember 108 things for which I am grateful. Each one is said while beading the mala to create a collective meditation of gratitude.
Part of manifesting is to have gratitude. The energy, ideas, insights come in from our Universal or Divine connection, flows through our core energetic called the sushumna nadi down through our root and into the earth. We then draw up the energy from the Earth connection to flow out into the world. When we receive the fruit of what we manifest, we give thanks for the return of the energetic cycle. The more we connect with this cycle, the more empowered we become in our belief that we are in working relationship with something higher than ourselves.
We all, no matter the hardships we've endured in our lives have something to be grateful for. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said in his infamous "I've been to the Mountaintop" speech.."...only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars."
During this month of family, feasting and prepping for the holiday season, bring forth your gratitude for at least one thing in your life. I'm sure once you begin you'll discover many more gifts!
I'd love to hear your gratitude..what are you grateful for this Thanks-giving? Please share under the Comments.
